Evangelicals Calling The Bishops Back
posted (June 9, 2017)
The church State Commission did not present its position paper to the Deputy Prime Minister as planned this week - and that's because two Bishops pulled out of the church group. That came in the same week when all the church leaders were supposed to have a retreat to hammer out their final position for presentation to the government. That retreat got derailed by the withdrawals of these two leading religious personalities.

President of the Council of Churches, and Methodist Bishop Roosevelt Papouloute, and the head of the Anglican Church, Bishop Phillip Wright, said they felt their views were not being represented in the final position paper and so they pulled out.

Today, the National Evangelical Association of Belize sent out a release saying, quote, "We were deeply saddened to hear of Bishop Phillip Wright and Bishop Papouloute's sudden withdrawal from the Commission as valued partners. As all involved would testify, the Commission's 9 months were full of respectful, cordial discussions with a spirit of teamwork. We would like to see the Commission fulfil its purpose inclusive of all members."

As we understand it, right now, the remaining church members need more time to present the final position paper and will be seeking a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister.
