Defense Minister Defiant and Triumphant
posted (June 9, 2017)
Earlier on in the news, you heard the US Embassy's Charge D Affairs comment on the issue involving Defense Minister John Saldivar, who used Coast Guard vessels to ferry his private basketball team, the Bandits.

And last week, we got comments from a number of ministers, including his boss, the Prime Minister, who all said, they wouldn't have done it - or words to that effect. For context in our story, we revisit those now:..

Hon. Elodio Aragon, Min. Of State - Home Affairs
"Under my watch we will ensure that such abuses do not hamper the police department."

Jules Vasquez, 7News
"It should not happen?"

Hon. Elodio Aragon, Min. Of State - Home Affairs
"Of course it should not happen."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"If you want me to say if it were me, I would have done things differently, I probably would have."

Hon. Anthony Martinez
"I would have find it difficult to do it."

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"I wouldn't have done it."

Well, Saldivar has struck back at them - including, apparently, the PM. Earlier this week, he posted on his Facebook page, "To those who would not do what I have done...please allow me to be me while you continue to be you and let my people be my judge and your people be your judge!!!" Now, that's the Prime Minister and the Deputy PM he's talking to right there, and maybe Saldivar felt vindicated since his team, the Bandits won the NEBL championship - without using the Coast Guard vessels for the championship game in San PEdro.
