Faber Emphasizes Opposition to Corporal Punishment
posted (June 16, 2017)
Still on education, the Ministry is investigating a corporal punishment case at San Pablo Government in Orange Walk. A teacher allegedly banged her 8 year old students head on the wall among other abusive acts. When the child told his mother, the mom went to the school and attacked the teacher. It was a messy scene at the school and Education Minister says he doesn't have all details but officials are trying to get to the bottom of this troubling case. Faber also re-iterated the Ministry's strong position against corporal punishment.

Hon. Patrick Faber, Deputy Prime Minister
"I was in an informal discussion where I know that the matter is being investigated there are some conflicting bits of information coming out to ascertain whether or not the teacher issued corporal punishment so I am not in a position to comment on what the facts are because we are still sifting through things to find out what those facts are but I will tell you that the Ministry's positon is a zero tolerance for corporal punishment and so if at the end of the day it is found that in fact corporal punishment was utilized by a teacher on a student that as I said will not be tolerated and the Ministry will move on that."
