Pastor Humes Clears His Name
posted (July 4, 2017)
Last night we told you about the Pastor and Cab Driver, Mark Humes - who was charged for drug trafficking. This is after he took a taxi job to drop off a 16 year old who was carrying 10 pounds of weed in a suitcase.

Humes said that on Friday he was just outside the bus station doing his usual runs when the 16 year old came off the bus. Little did he know that the events of the next few hours would see him end up in police lockdown for 72 hours, sleeping on the floor with common criminals.

And by last night - he was being labelled on another media house as "a church pastor turned drug trafficker." Today, the father of four told us what the past few days have been like:...

Mark Humes - Disavows Drug Trafficking Charge
"We were charged Friday evening, that was when I got to know this young man, that was when I got to know him. I didn't know what his name was. What I got out of this was $7, a taxi fare. I wish I didn't work that day. Its been terrible, I've never slept on a cement floor before. I understand why they call the place the way they call the place, because it will get you drunk in there. But because of the support of friends and family who visited and brought food for me, water, it was something that I could have coped with at least I knew that there were people there supporting me. So wasn't there alone, but the toll it had on me was terrible, it was horrific and so he promised me he would take the rap and tell the truth. I say Michael, just tell the truth. So he went in to tell the truth, but eventually when his lawyer showed up he reversed what he said and so that's why we are here during this process right now."

Jules Vasquez
"Now, you are a pastor you said since 1995."

"Yes, 1996, I was ordain in Columbus, Ohio and I'm not pastoring now. I do not have a congregation but everyone who knows me, knows that I have a clean reputation and across United States, Central America, so I don't take drugs, I don't use drugs, I don't sell drugs."

Jules Vasquez
"Explain to me the toll it has taken on you and your family having that put out there, "pastor turned drug dealer"?"

Mark Humes - Disavows Drug Trafficking Charge
"It's a terrible situation, because I know and all my friends and people who know me know that I am not like that."

Jules Vasquez
"People would see this and you've made a very clear denouncement, you are not involved that world at all but people will see it and people will say, he says he's not involved, but maybe."

"That's a good question and I appreciate that very much Jules. Let's just say I am a drug trafficker, I pick up this young man from the bus terminal, and I took him to San Pedro Belize Express, because there was another customer that had to take the 4 o clock boat. Let's just say I know what is in case. Why would I pass through 3 checkpoint knowing that 10 pound of weed is in my van. Anybody would sense either I am a drug trafficker and I have lost my mind or I'm just stupid. Why would I pass through 3 checkpoints knowing that I have drugs in my van. Do you see my point? Who want to judge, its fine. Who wants to talk whatever, its fine. I just wanted people to know, people who know me, know me. It's just been a rough weekend for me. I know what 72 feels like. I didn't want to hear that number."

Jules Vasquez
"How do you proceed from here? You are a taxi man, you pick up people from the bus, who knows what is their cargo?"

Mark Humes - Disavows Drug Trafficking Charge
"I have to get a van that has an x-ray in the back of my van to x-ray the luggage. That's the only way I can get out and make sure that I keep clear. No, it's terrible because I think that there has to be considerations made to the law because this could happen to you Jules. You can pick up a bystander, you can pick up a friend, you can pick up anybody and if he has a gun or a bullet or drugs, that's it for you."

Humes pleaded not guilty and was released on bail of one thousand dollars now has to build a case and next re-appears in court in September. He stresses that the 16 year old was also charged for possession of five grams of cannabis.
