DPM Faber Says There Was Not Deliberate Rudeness
posted (July 5, 2017)

So, was it a deliberate strategy for the Ministers to be difficult, rude and rough with the Senators?  That’s what we asked the Deputy Prime Minister today:…

Jules Vasquez
“Did you see the senate proceedings today, what did you think of the performance your ministerial colleagues?â€￾

Hon. Patrick Faber - Deputy Prime Minister
“I have not seen it sir.â€￾

Jules Vasquez
“You must have heard it.â€￾

Hon. Patrick Faber
“I have not heard or seen anything; I am looking forward to your newscast later for me to find out what went on.â€￾

Jules Vasquez
“They took like a pugnacious non cooperative approach. Is that a game decision you all made at the ministerial level in the cabinet that; hey we are playing hard ball here?â€￾

Hon. Patrick Faber
“No not at all, I don’t know of any such strategy; no there is no strategy on the part of colleagues to go there to create that kind of trouble for the committee no.â€￾

Today, the PUP was swift in their condemnation; the opposition released a statement before news time saying quote, “Quite apart from our outrage at the disrespectful and brutish behaviour of these men, as Belizeans we are ashamed at the knowledge that what occurred in the Senate today will surely be broadcast regionally. Our regional and foreign partners will observe this shameful display from those who are, regrettably, in leadership roles in this country. The actions of these Ministers who clearly believe that they are the ‘untouchables,’ show a troubling pattern by the Barrow Administration to display wanton disregard for truth…â€￾ End quote.
