Soberanis Superior

Earlier in the news, we showed you Lieutenant Gregory Soberanis. As we told you last week, he excelled in a one year training course at the United States Naval War College. Soberanis distinguished himself among his counterparts, winning the International Leadership Award and was voted President of the Naval Staff College while he attended. When we spoke to him today, Soberanis told us about his experience at the training course, and how it will help to bolster the Coast Guard's activities here in Belize...

"It was an extremely enlightening opportunity for me and it's definitely a humbling experience to interact with officers from all over the world and to be able to represent not only the Belize, but represent the country of Belize. At the end of the day the skill sets that was acquired from this course I believe will be able to assist in executing the mission and vision of the Belize Coast Guard."

"The course that are in place for international students is a one year course and it is divided into 3 trimesters and for the first trimester you study national security. You then study strategy and policy and then you get into joint military operations."

"Admiral Borland has a strategic development plan for the coast guard and as such the knowledge gain, the skill sets that was acquired from the war college will allow me to assist Admiral Borland in executing his strategic development plan for the coast guard. So like I said I am very humble and privilege to have been given the opportunity to be able to go to the war college, come back and to be of greater support to the Admiral."

Soberanis is the first Belizean to complete the 1 year course.
