Bad Bus Business In Chetumal
posted (July 17, 2017)
This weekend, the usual bus transit to Chetumal was disrupted when commuters were left near the Princess Casino at the border crossing instead of being taken to the Old market inside Chetumal.

From there commuters had to take a Mexican Taxi into Chetumal - and they weren't happy about it - upset at both the extra spending and the inconvenience.

The change come out of a meeting held on Friday where the Mexican federal police, the transport department in Chetumal along with the municipal authorities presented Belizean Bus operators and owners with new transport regulations. Basically, they wanted to move the busses form where they park at the old Market to a different area. The Belizean Bus operators were not happy with the new accommodations, and refused to transport passengers into Chetumal over the weekend.

The Mexicans want Belize's bus owners to upgrade their busses and adhere to new regulations which will make traffic management in Chetumal more orderly. They were never banned from entering Chetumal.

But now with the standoff, bus operators are expected to meet with Mexican officials in the coming days.
