A Torch Run With Real Meaning
posted (December 4, 2017)
This coming Friday the 2017 Special Olympics will commence right here in Belize City at the Mario Jones Stadium. A traditional torch run is usually done in support of the games. The Belize Police Department has been participating in the run since 2012 and this year is no different. Inspector of Police Edward Carcamo explained more on the meaningful run.

Edward Carcamo, Inspector Of Police/Eastern Division Officer In Charge of Community Policing
"The purpose of the law enforcement torch run is to raise funds and sensitize the community in assistance to the special Olympic Belize for people with an intellectual disability that participate in sports."

"From when we left Mango Creek we went into Placencia for a little while and then proceeded to Dangriga. We did Dangriga and went to Belmopan from there this morning from Benque Viejo. We were in Benque Viejo for a while we went to Santa Elena and then we came to Belize City southside."

"From here the flame of hope will be going to San Pedro and tomorrow morning it will be in Belize City on the Northside. The day after it goes to Corozal and comes down to Orange Walk. Friday morning we have two flames that we will be moving. One will be moving from Haulover Bridge and the other will be moving from mile 4 on the George Price Highway."

The two groups will be coming in together for the final day of the torch run on Friday. They are aiming to reach Marion Jones by 9 am in order to signal the opening of the 2017 Special Olympics.
