NTUCB Tells GOB, Pay The 90 Million - In Installments
posted (December 5, 2017)
Back in 2007, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize was one of the loudest voices out there, railing against the then Musa administration, and demanding that they not use public funds to pay off Universal Hospital's private debt. In fact, they went to the Supreme Court along with the Association for Concerned Belizeans to make their case against Universal.

But, 10 years later, with the cost of the debt trebled - the NTUCB has changed its tune. At a meeting on Saturday, the umbrella organization took a resolution saying that the 90.6 million dollars should be paid in installments.

The resolution underscores that the CCJ is the final Court of Appeal, and concludes, quote, "Be it resolved that in consideration of this huge debt and the state of our country's finances, the Government makes payments to the Belize Bank Ltd in installments over a projected period until the debt is fully satisfied."

The Chamber which was a party to that same anti-USH litigation in 2007 has urged government to do the same. All indications are that the UDP's majority in Parliament plan to vote against making the payment.
