Strong Cold Front Fading
posted (December 12, 2017)
The past few days, Belizean all across the country have been digging deep into their closets or barrells, shaking out those camphor balls, and bringing out their thickest sweaters. That's because of the cold front which has blanketed Belize since the weekend.

The temperatures took their farthest dip on Sunday, reaching to temperatures of 49 degrees Fahrenheit in higher areas inland, to about 63 or 64 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast.

Now, if you're one who enjoys cooler weather, you better make the most of it, because the Belize Met Service says that this cold front is about to finish passing over the country.

We caught up with meteorologist Derrick Rudon who shared some details about that cold front. Here's what he had to say:

Derrick Rudon, Meteorologist
"A cold front passed early Saturday morning across the country and behind the cold front is the cold air, so we are in the cold air behind the front."

Reporter
"Around the entire what are some of the lowest temperatures that you guys Meteorological Services recorded?"

Derrick Rudon, Meteorologist
"From our automatic stations that we have at various locations around the country, Baldy Beacon record the lowest temperature of about 48 degrees Fahrenheit or 8.7 Celsius Sunday morning."

Reporter
"Is the cold front expected to stay for the entire Christmas season or is it moving away shortly?"

Derrick Rudon, Meteorologist
"It's going away in the next few days. We are expecting another cold morning tomorrow morning and then Thursday morning a little bit warmer, not so cold and by Friday it should be warming us even more."

Reporter
"Were these temperatures any different, anything unusual as compared to previous years?"

Derrick Rudon, Meteorologist
"They are not unusual. This front was a strong front and we had two weak fronts in October, none in November and this one was rather strong. But in terms of extreme temperatures we didn't set any records."
