Viewers will remember that at the end of August, Almost 4 months ago, we told you how Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales fired his former foreign Minister, Carlos Raul Morales. That happened after Carlos Raul Morales refused to follow his order to kick the foreign head of the CICIG out of the country. You are aware that CICIG is the UN backed anti-corruption body which led the investigation into the former President, Otto Perez Molina, and his Vice President, Roxanna Baldetti landing them both in jail, where they remain while awaiting criminal trial.

Well, the Government of Belize is reporting that Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington held his first bilateral meeting with Carlos Raul Morales' successor. The New Guatemalan Foreign Minister is Sandra Jovel. OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, participated in this bilateral meeting with both Foreign Ministers yesterday in Panama. They were there for the Meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the Central American Integration System (SICA).

The Government of Belize says that at this first meeting, both ministers reiterated commitments made under the Special Agreement of 2008. They also talked about the preparations for the ICJ referendum, and the public campaigns being carried out.

Both Ministers asserted their commitment to re-engage at the bilateral level, in the promotion of confidence-building measures.

Secretary General Almagro also reiterated full support through his office and the OAS to strengthen their office in the Adjacency Zone. They have also agreed to meet with the Group of Friends in the near future.
