And from that killing in Belmopan, we turn now to the fatal stabbing of 53 Mark Anthony Vasquez in Belize City.
It happened on Saturday night, around 11:00 - when the well known car dealer was attacked.
Police were responding to reports of a fight near the Radisson Pier when they saw a young Hispanic man fleeing the area. He had blood on his shirt, and injuries of his own, and so the cops detained him.
The officers found Vasquez on the ground in a pool of his blood; he had multiple stab wounds to the neck. He was rushed to the KHMH, but he was pronounced dead by when he got there.
At today's police press briefing, the Head of CIB in Belize City shared what details they have been able to establish so far:

"On Saturday the 16th of December 2017, sometime just after 11 pm, police visited the KHMH where they observed one Mark Anthony Vasquez with several apparent stab wounds to the neck and chest area. He was declared DOA at the KHMH.
"What police have gathered so far is that just before the incident, sometime around 10:50 he was seen along with another male person having a struggle between the light house and the pier at the Radisson hotel. As a result of that he was found with the stab wounds and transported to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Also we have learned that while police was at the scene processing the scene, a male person was observed with injuries to his body and he was transported to the KHMH and he is presently being admitted for his injuries. His name is Osvaldo Nieto and we suspect that he can assist in this investigation at this moment."

"Was there any robbery element?"

"So far, there's nothing indicating that it's a robbery. We understand that it was a struggle between the two male persons."

"Since there was no robbery element, would it be fair to say the gentlemen were socializing?"
ASP Alejandro Cowo
"There's nothing that can indicate to us at this moment, what exactly had transpired between them. All we know there was struggle between them that further led to the death of Mr. Vasquez."

"What kind of injuries?"
ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Several stab injuries."

"Have you recovered the…?"
ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Yes, we suspect that we have the murder weapon, likewise."

"Was there any known association between the individuals?"
ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Not that we know."
Police will be questioning Osbaldo Nieto.
We reached out to several members of Mark Vasquez's family but they declined our requests for an interview.
News archives say that way back in March of 1998, Vasquez was criminally charged with abetment in the rape of the UDP politician, Marisa Quan.
Vasquez is also the uncle of Bert Vasquez, the accused girl killer who's awaiting trial for Jasmine Lowe's murder.
