Tonight Orange Walk police know who they plan to charge for the murder of 35 year old Jaime Pelayo. Matter of fact, he should have been charged today - but reports are that he escaped from police custody yesterday.
Today, police wouldn't admit to that though, the head of national crimes investigation pretended like nothing happened when he said they know who their suspect is:..

"In respect to the Orange Walk murder of James Pelayo, the police is looking for one suspect, who has been positively identified, and as soon as he is found he will be charged for murder."

"His father insists he was shot, that it's just a drunken person who pulled out a shotgun and started firing indiscriminately and a shot hit his son. Are you able to say if that is indeed the case or if it is a case of that he was - Jaime Pelayo was targeted by the gunman?"
ACP Joseph Myvette
"From police investigations, the deceased Jaime Pelayo was along with two other persons standing within the compound of the nightclub establishment when they were approached form a distance by one persons who fired in the direction where the three persons were standing. As a consequence of that - he along with the other persons he was with received gunshot injuries."

"But specifically the person was firing at that group then?"
ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes."
Jules Vasquez, reporter
"He was not just firing indiscriminately."
ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes. He was firing at that group where only three persons were in the immediate area."
Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Was his murder related, perhaps related to his past?"
ACP Joseph Myvette
"None that we know of."
As Jaime Pelayo's father told us his son had fallen in with a bad crowd and had a troubled past with police.
The suspect is from Carmelita Village - and he remains at large tonight.
