Courtenay On Foreign Affairs: Been There, Done That
posted (December 20, 2017)

And the war of words didn’t end there. Courtenay didn’t let Elrington get away with accusing him of gunning for the office of Minister of Foreign Affairs. Here’s both sides of that story:

Hon. Wilfred Elrington - Minister of Foreign Affairs

"He would want to see the matter postponed. He wants to see it derailed, because I can't see any good reason why he would want to touch it now."

Hon. Eamon Courtenay - PUP Senator

"It is the type of nonsense that comes from addled time."

Hon. Wilfred Elrington

"That is my view, though. You might have a different view. Mr. Courtenay can't point to any good reason why he wants to take this position at this time, when he knows the Government of Belize is dealing with."

Hon. Eamon Courtenay

"I make no apology. The People's United Party makes no apology for insisting that at the soonest possible time, the Maritime Areas Act should be amended. I am saying that Wilfred Elrington is in dereliction of his duty. It should have been done a long time ago, and now is the time to do it."

Hon. Wilfred Elrington

"And you know, there is nothing more that he wants than to become Foreign Minister. He's desperately desirous of taking this position, and has been so for some years.â€￾

Hon. Eamon Courtenay

"Talk about me want his job? First of all, been there, done that."

Hon. Wilfred Elrington

"So, you have to watch his motives. You can't assume that he has the most honest of motives. You have to watch his motives because really and truly, he wants this job, and he's impatient."

Hon. Eamon Courtenay

"I have absolutely no interest or intention of becoming Foreign Minister of Belize again. Wilfred Elrington is grasping at straws in trying to mislead people as to his failings. I want his job, why? Ask him. Why?"

Hon. Wilfred Elrington

"So, it's not that he is being honest in his characteristic style. He's really seeking to mislead and confuse the Belizean public, and it's a dangerous matter because you don't want to be putting a nation at risk because you want to grand stand."

Hon. Eamon Courtenay

"Do I want him out of that job? Absolutely, yes, anybody could do better than what he is doing. Anybody."

Later on in the news, we’ll have more from Foreign Minister Elrington, who said that the Guatemalans still want Magdalena Talamas removed as the OAS Representative in the Adjacency Zone office.
