AG Says He Expects CJ to be Here In 2018
posted (December 28, 2017)
Last night we told you about a newspaper report from Guyana saying that Belize's Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin could be on the move. The Guyana Times reports, quote, "Benjamin has been tipped to be Guyana's Chancellor of the Judiciary according to highly-placed sources and luminaries in the legal profession."

Well today Belize's Attorney General Mike Peyreffite told 7News that the Chief Justice has said nothing about that to him. He has heard that the Guyanese President is interested in Benjamin taking up the post, but stresses that he expects Benjamin to continue being the Chief Justice of Belize in 2018.

Peyrefitte noted also that in the Guyanese system the Leader of the opposition in that country would have to consent to any appointment made by the president. So, Peyreffite says any news of an appointment in GUYANA is not a done deal.
