Southern Teacher Killed in Questionable Circumstances In Belize City
posted (December 28, 2017)
And while Ahmad's death is not currently being called a homicide, police cannot say the same for a killing this morning in Maureen Leslie Street. A teacher from Independence Village named Desmond Lewis was in strange circumstances when he was killed. The circumstances are still being questioned, but we found out that Lewis was a loved man:

Sahar Vasquez reporting
On January 14th, 2014 Desmond Lewis was all smiles because he was the lucky winner of a brand new Wingle at a Court's raffle. It was the first time he had ever won something and his excitement could not be hidden.

Now the once happy and excited Lewis lies in the morgue at the KHMH.

His short life came to an end early this morning. Lewis who lives in Dangriga came to Belize City and was staying at a friend's house on Maureen Leslie Street. It is there that someone stabbed him in the chest and cut his throat. Lewis was discovered kneeling between two-bed posts.

Lewis's untimely death has sent waves of emotional shock not just to his family and friends all over but also to the many students he taught. Lewis was a beloved teacher at the Independence High School and the principal of the school shared the massive impact he had on his students.

Omar Longsworth, Principal of Independence High School
"He was someone who from my observation was able to work very well with students. His homeroom at the second form level was always well managed and I think one of the homerooms that students are very cooperative at in terms of keeping the room when they have to decorate for different occasions and was always one of the best and so he really worked well with the students and the students worked well with him and for the most part once he was in his classroom we did not have to worry about situations getting out of hand. He had very good management ability here at the school so he had a very good impact on the students here."

"This morning when I got that message I was in shock. I did not expect to hear that. That was not the message I was hoping to hear at this time so students are already communicating via WhatsApp and Facebook and so on. It is a shock to everyone."

"I am sure that he will be missed by the students that he was working with here at Independence High School."

Now his life ends in a cloud of controversy - with many questions left unanswered.

The police continue to investigate and we'll have more tomorrow.
