Ahmad Family Alleges Conspiracy
posted (January 2, 2018)
So a few hours after the arraignment, the Ahmad Family called a press conference to discuss the major development that the cops had charged one of their own for the murder of their loved one.

This grieving family, which distrusts the police for past encounters, made it clear that they want an independent investigator to handle Fareed Ahmad's case. They say that for the appearance of transparency, the cops should not be investigating their own.

Here's how Fareed's sister explained it. We stress that Constable Michelle Brown is charged with murder, which is an allegation, and she is innocent until proven guilty:

Taheera Ahmad, Sister of Deceased
"A member of the police department is responsible of the murder for one of the most outstanding, ambitious, law-abiding, community centered and self-giving black young barber and business man in our country. To the leader of this country we are asking for an independent investigation into the murder of Fareed Ahmad. We are asking for this because it is an outright conflict of interest for the police to investigate its own. Especially in a matter of this magnitude and under the circumstances. We're asking for this because more than five days after the murder, family members and work colleges worked up to two hours before Fareed's demise have not even been contacted or interviewed. His own wife who said Fareed called her less than an hour before this incident asking her to prepare some food, she has not even been interviewed. We're asking for this because yes there is a question of competence and trust, and justifiably, the citizens of this country will always harbor suspicions about this investigation. Our family continues to be surveilled. Our family continues to receive treats on our lives. In fact, we've already made detailed reports to the police department about our concerns for our safety and for our lives. Even though the surveillance and intimidation is unwarranted, we must say that the family ironically, is relying heavily on the same police department to fulfill its mandate to protect us. Yes, many may find this comment skeptical, but we believe that there are good police officers. We believe that the chain of command, the commissioner, minister of national security, its CEO and the prime minister will do their best to ensure that these critical matters brought forward will be thoroughly addressed. We request the same exact protection, the 10's of officers that this WPC Brown received this morning when she was arraigned and escorted to the prison. We the family ironically is requesting these same protections."

As you heard, the family insists that Fareed's murder is connected to some larger conspiracy. So, the press challenged them on the persistent rumor that Ahmad and Brown had a relationship. Here's how they answered that one:

Abduhl Ahmad, Brother of Deceased
"In reference to the first question in regards to why we believe it is more than just a relationship between Fareed and this female. Keep in mind that there is no one at this point that came forward to the police station to whereby giving a statement that Fareed and this female, WPC Michele Brown, do know each other. In reference to why believe it is more than this female involved in Fareed's murder, is due to forth coming information in regards to other members of that same SAT team having knowledge, implicating themselves in text messages. Chester Williams was informed of those reports earlier today, he received a screenshot of those messages which showed the number those messages came from. He was shown how this number linked to a specific member of that SAT team."

At the press conference today, the family also invited the leader of the Muslim community in Belize to make a few comments. He told us that he hopes Fareed's killing is not some sort of test for Belizean Muslims:

Kaleem El-Ahmim, Leader of Local Muslim Community
"It may make members of the public imagine, as myself, that maybe this is an individual that was murdered and it was done. They would want to see how Muslims in Belize would react. It could be an isolated, or calculated to do maybe see if the Muslim community can be provoked. Because on the world scene it is always presented that Muslims are ready to fight, be terrorists and to do dangerous things. There is a saying that I learnt in Wesley Primary School, they say you give a dog a bad name then you can kill it. So there is no member in the Muslim community that will be allowed, with our emotions and grief that we'll be reacting and at some point we turn the enemies of the people of Belize. Because as the Muslim community, we see ourselves as part of this Belizean country and we feel every pain that a non-Muslim feels. We feel the same pain, we don't see ourselves as an exclusive only good group and the rest of Belizeans are not our concern. We love the rest of Belizean people and also all other murders that took place, we feel the same way. We are trying our best as Sister Taheera says, we want to think good of our prime minister, our commissioner, our police department, because they are us."

There is a vigil planned for Fareed Ahmad tomorrow evening. He was laid to rest on Friday.
