Ahmad Family Says Text Messages Show They Are On a “Hit List”
posted (January 4, 2018)
The saga of the Ahmad family continues after the murder of Fareed Ahmad. Tonight, it has gone from perplexing to almost unbelievable. As we told you, the family is convinced that they are in grave danger, and are being hunted by rogue elements of the police department. They are seeking protection, and they also want an independent investigator to take over from the police in trying to get to the bottom of Fareed's death.

And while they allege a wider conspiracy, there was no concrete evidence offered to back up that claim.

But, now, they've disclosed a series of text messages which they say is proof of this conspiracy. We've seen the messages, and we'll share them with you, but first a disclaimer. These messages could simply be the photoshopped product of some mischief maker trying to stir up serious trouble and suspicion.

But, the family believes them to be authentic, and so, we'll let you be the judge.

The messages are contained in screenshots which were purportedly sent from a number belonging to a leading figure in a police special unit. In the message, the sender is openly discussing the Fareed case, as well the Ahmad family, and some sort of hit list.

Translated from Kriol to English the text messages say, quote, "Listen bro, stop getting jumpy. Fareed is already dead, and dead men tell no tales. Make sure you keep your... mouth shut and stop acting jumpy... The boss already handled you, so stick to your part and stop calling up anybody from the crew. You are already set, so chill out because if you do... you will end up the same way as Fareed. Just relax... and wait until the boss contacts you. Next thing, make sure you keep a close eye on the next... brother, Fisal and the rest on the list I sent you. Enough cash is there to be made if you play this out right. Just stick to his every move until the time is right and then, we will say hello to his Allah soon. You know the protocol, bro. Don't text back; just listen and comply. Fareed's sister might become a problem as well. So, we might have to take her out faster than we originally planned. So, be on standby for a text from... the boss. And stop worrying about Chester because his investigation report doesn't play a role. We are untouchable. Don't forget who the boss is... Make sure you get rid of the hit list because we don't want anybody to see that or know about it. And don't worry about Michelle because if that little (blank)... says the wrong thing... the... will turn up dead and people will think that Fareed's family killed her. Make sure you delete all messages that you are getting from me or any member of the team." End quote.

So, the family is convinced that this is proof, and it certainly reads like part of the script from a spy thriller movie. But it is legitimate? Yesterday, Abdul Ahmad, the brother of Fareed, spoke about it in our interview discussing the candle light vigil. Here's what he had to say:

Abdul Ahmad - Brother of the Deceased
"Inside those messages, it indicated members of my family that are next on the hit list. They also highlighted inside those messages that there seems to be a huge lump sum of money to make off the heads of my family members. It also indicated whereby the officer [was] sending the next officer that message. In regard the sources, we know who the messages were sent to. In regards to the information, the fact that we have in our possession, it shows the number for who sent that message, and definitely prove who sent those messages. It also highlighted that Fareed's execution was well-organized, I must stress Fareed is not the only member of the Ahmad family that is on that list. Inside that list, like I mentioned, 2 of my other siblings' names were called, and it also indicated there will be others as well. Those messages also reported that one of the investigation officers, specifically in regards to Fareed's case, can't touch them. They are well protected, and this individual is nobody. It's very frightening. It's very disturbing. I repeat that we are very much in fear of our lives at this moment, and anyone who knows us, the Ahmads, knows us to be hardworking. Everyone is working. None of us have a criminal record, so why the constant surveillance. Why the constant pressure, from where is it coming from? And these are why we are yelling. We are crying out. If they can us, being law abiding citizens, what makes it different, whereby they cannot do the same to another family?"

Today, the officers who spoke at the bi-weekly press conference told us that they could not take any questions on these screenshots and referred us to the head of the Professional Standards Branch Chester Williams, who was not present.

We reached out to the Senior officer commanding the unit in question and the junior officer whose number these text messages supposedly originate from. Neither of them have responded to our requests for a comment.
