Two weeks ago, we told you about 23 year-old Floyd Escarpeta, who was remanded to the Belize Central Prison for allegedly breaking into the Coastal Road home of 92 year-old Modesto Bardalez. Well tonight, he has a co-accused, who was arraigned today at the Magistrate's Court.
He's 23 Elton Bowen, a resident of Gales Point Manatee, and he was arraigned today before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer today on the charges of burglary and theft. Police say that on February 16, he and Escarpeta allegedly broke into the elderly man's home at mile 16 and three quarter on the Coastal Road. They then stole several household items and personal documents - as well as Bardarlez's pickup truck, which was recovered with Escarpeta's help.
When the court was considering whether or not he should be granted bail, the prosecutor could not establish what Bowen's exact role in the burglary was. So, the Chief Magistrate granted him bail of $6,000.
Court reports say that on the day of the home invasion, Modesto Bardalez was tied up and gagged, after which, his house was cleaned out, and the thieves made off with his vehicle.
