Tonight, the 17 month old toddler who was physically and sexually abused could be taken off life support. She is reported to be brain dead and unresponsive - so the family has that very difficult choice facing them this evening.
And at 6:00 pm today at the Ladyville police station her 21 year old stepfather was being charged Dangerous harm of the child - a number of other charges will follow. Police are waiting on directives from the DPP. Again, we cannot disclose his name so as not to expose the identity of the child. But we will call her Baby A.N. - her initials.
As we told you, our information is that the baby's mother would usually leave the infant with the step grandmother when she leaves for work. But on Wednesday morning, the step grandmother had to go to Belize City so she left Baby A.N. in the care of her son, who is the baby's stepfather. When the step grandmother returned, her son rushed over and said the baby wasn't responding. And that's the situation she remains in tonight. We'll continue to track her condition closely.
