Universal Award Goes Back To House, Will UDP Pay?
posted (August 28, 2018)
There's a Special Sitting of the House of Representatives scheduled for Friday - and 7News has confirmed that the appropriations bill to pay the Universal Health guarantee will be brought back to the House. Our sources say a new bill for 95 million dollars will be tabled, to replace the last one which was for 92 million dollars. Since then, 17% interest has been running accounting for the 3 million dollar difference.

And while the original bill was tabled in January - no vote was taken. But, the news is that, this time, a vote will be taken. It is expected that the Government majority will vote against paying it, leaving this rather weighty matter very much in the air.

As we have reported that 90+ million dollar figure is the compensation award for the Belize Bank - after the Musa administration gave the private hospital a public guarantee.

And while that vote will be dramatic - on Friday, a stunning five annual reports from the contractor General will be tabled. That suggests to us that he did not file any reports for the last 6 years, and that these have now been completed - which, if accurate would be rather alarming for a government whose calling card was supposed to be transparency.

There will also be two reports tabled from the Auditor General.
