Molding Young Farmers

School's out and all types of summer camps have opened all over the country. Belmopan police has one of the most ambitious with the Youths Engaged in Agriculture Summer Camp which started yesterday at the National Agriculture and Trade Showgrounds in Belmopan.

The idea is to attract more young people to the agriculture sector., and to give the youths some sense of self sufficiency. A release says, quote, the Ministry seeks to promote agriculture as a cool, profitable and attractive career for youths.

Activities include field visits to Spanish Lookout, Central Farm and Banana Bank and a hands-on practical training for students. It culminates in a kid's rodeo on July 13th.

Now in its third year, the camp has grown to include 260 students from the Belize and Cayo districts. The ministry hopes to extend it to other districts.
