Shyne Wanted To Talk Reparations
posted (March 23, 2022)
But did Barrow time his trip to Liberia - a republic founded by slaves repatriated to Africa - just so that he could snub the Duke and Duchess pf Cambridge who were in Belize at the same time?

Certainly, a visit with the Parliamentary Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition would have been on the royal itinerary.

But, it was not to be. However, had it happened, Shyne said he would have told them straight up that it's time to talk reparations:

Hon. Moses "Shyne" Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"But I must say had I been here, I would have taken the opportunity to press William and Kate about reparations. They owe Belize and the Caribbean and all the nations that they colonized a vast amount of in financial reparatory considerations as well as an apology. I remember when David Cameron was in Jamaica, he refused to apologized, so again, it is not to quarrel or to be offensive, but the history of colonialism in Belize and in the Caribbean is atrocious, it is inhumane and so people always talk about my past 24 years ago and they never want me to live it down. It is something that we need to consider when the so-called monarchs visit our country. What is there to celebrate. When we get our reparations, the money that is owed to us, the apology that is owed to us and we become a republic and from the monarch, the we can celebrate, then they can come as quasi- celebrities and vacate, but this entire prestige that is given to people who enslaved, I guess everybody was not enslaved and I guess some of the people who weren't enslaved feel well that has nothing to do with me, but it does."

"I saw your party chairman at the reception though."

Hon. Moses "Shyne" Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"That is very much his prerogative, I hope that he mentioned reparation to William as Prime Minister Holness did in Jamaica. Don't get me wrong, I would not have protest, I would have not evaded attending, but I would have used the opportunity to bring up the very real subject of reparations and an apology."

Jules Vasquez
"So you completely Belize moving to a republic?"

Hon. Moses "Shyne" Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"Absolutely and I support reparations and I support an apology from Britain for the atrocities committed to Belize and to other Caribbean nations."

Jules Vasquez
"Do you support Indian Creek villagers who took a stand and said hey we can't land at Buckingham Palace, you can't land here without consent."

Hon. Moses "Shyne" Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"I totally respect where they are coming from. As I said I would not have protested their visit, I would have attended and I would have had the very frank discussion that I am having with you. If you are a friend of the Africans or the Garifuna of all the people that suffered because of colonialism, because of racism, then fix it."
