The Museum of Belize is marking its fourth anniversary and as part of the
celebration, an activity room was opened today. The idea behind it is to have
schoolchildren come in to the museum in their after school hours, and while
there they'll be able to gain some extra knowledge in the arts as well as in
history. The museum's educator Kernell Parks explains.
Kernell Parks,
"Opening the activity room was essential being that today's the fourth
anniversary here at the Museum of Belize and to commemorate that we are opening
the activity room. The activity room is geared towards children and we are hoping
to get the feedback from the parents sending their children here in the evening
from about 3:30 to 5 o'clock there about to just have somewhere for their children
to be after school and having this space here at the Museum we saw it fitting
to open the area and turn it into a activity room geared towards the children.
We will be showing them the different arts and crafts, how to go about doing
it, and create little crafts that they could take home with them in the evening
after leaving. This is one aspect of the whole thing, upstairs we have our multimedia
center where we will be teaching them about the whole displays that are going
on here at the Museum. We will also incorporate a couple of those things in
the art activities."
