60 Coconut Farmers Received Specialized Training To Protect Crops
posted (October 21, 2026)
And finally tonight, more than 60 coconut farmers in the Stann Creek and Toledo Districts have completed specialized training aimed at protecting their crops from pests and diseases. The workshops were organized by the Ministry of Agriculture under the Food and Agriculture Organization's "One Country One Priority Product" initiative, which promotes sustainable coconut production in Belize. The training combined classroom sessions with hands on field exercises, teaching farmers how to identify and control pests and diseases affecting coconut groves. Participants were also introduced to a citizen science approach that allows them to monitor their farms, build traps and submit weekly findings to agricultural officials to help track pest populations.
