Members of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau met
last night to vote for who will be their new senator. Godwin Hulse was the Chamber’s
nominee and Mel Auil Jr. was the Business Bureau’s choice. Hulse received
84 votes and Mel Auil Jr. received 43. So Godwin Hulse who served as Senator
from 2003 to 2008 will become the business sector senator for a second term.
This second term though, may be abbreviated because the UDP government intends
to reform the senate – and forseeably all the members would have to be
re-elected. The new government’s agenda for reform is expected to be revealed
when the House holds its inaugural meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14th,
in front of the National Assembly Building in Belmopan. |
