Team Belize in Monterrey
Thu, June 19, 2008

Reports are that they were going to strike but Belize’s National Football Team is in Monterrey Mexico and will play game 2 against Mexico on Saturday. Mexican media reported that both teams are already in Monterrey. No mention has been made of any players refusing to play. We have been reliably informed that the players did give Football Federation President Bertie Chimilio an ultimatum in Houston on Monday night. They demanded payment but instead they reportedly got a written agreement from the FFB. The players were promised an estimated US$5,000.

They will play game 2 against Mexico in Monterrey, a city of 1.1 million people and at a stadium that can seat 100,000 people. Belize has to score more than 2 goals to avoid elimination. The game will be aired on Channel 7.
