H1N1 Closing In On Belize
Wed, May 6, 2009

There are still no confirmed cases of swine flu in Belize tonight. The results of the ten tests still outstanding are not expected to be relayed to the Ministry of Health until later this evening. After that, they’ll take some time to process them and so the best we can project is that those results will be available tomorrow.

So while there are no cases in Belize, this morning, Guatemala confirmed its first case, an 11 year old girl who returned to that country from Mexico. She was detected at the airport in the capital city when she arrived from Vera Cruz. Of the eight new cases in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, two of them are in Chetumal. The good news there is that one has been already recovered as his test was collected in late April, but only confirmed today.

In other news, the Corozal Free Zone re-opened for business this morning after a six day shutdown.
