Grant’s Guilty Gunman

On the night of September 17, 2008, 35 year old Freddy Grant was shot up in the Conch Shell bay area of Belize city which is near the fish market on Vernon Street. Grant survived gunshot wounds to the back of his head, another to the cheek and one to his back. He collapsed, but then got up and went looking for help. He told police his shooter was Leon Blease who'd been having a beef with him.

The trial of Leon Blease for attempted murder started today. The first witness was Freddy Grant called after he was called, Blease who had originally pleaded not guilty changed his mind. He pleaded down from the charge of attempted murder to the lesser charge of use of deadly means of harm. He will be sentenced on Friday to give his attorney Arthur Saldivar time to prepare a mitigation plea.
