Killed His 80 Year Old Father for Twenty-Five Cents!
Tue, May 18, 2010
Today, 26 year old Glenford Grant, the man accused of killing his own father was arraigned in Belize City Magistrate's court. He appeared without a shirt and wore a disoriented look. So much so, that he had to be asked by the magistrate if he understood the charges.

Grant allegedly gave his 80 year old father Clifford Grant a brutal beating in his Oleander street home on Friday; the elder Grant went into a coma and never regained consciousness; he died on Saturday. Today in court, no plea was taken as it is an indictable offence and Glenford Grant was remanded until July first.

Now, what would make a son beat his 80 year old father to death? According to family members, he went to ask his father for twenty-five cents to buy a cigarette. When his father replied that he had none, his son started to beat him. Grant's 12 year old niece told police that on Friday at 2:00 she heard a commotion in the living room between her grandfather and her uncle and locked herself in the bedroom and peeped through a keyhole where she saw her uncle punching and stamping her grandfather.

She ran to a neighbor's house who called the police and ambulance. They found the octogenarian unconscious. He was taken to the KHMH where he remained in a coma until he died on Saturday afternoon. A post mortem conducted yesterday showed that he died from hemorrhage due to head trauma.
