VIP: No To “Blanket Amnesty”
Thu, November 11, 2010
The VIP Party has issued a statement striking a nationalist chord in advance of the approaching immigration amnesty programme for a proposed 20,000 illegal immigrants.

They say that what they call "a blanket amnesty" will strip native Belizeans of political control and direction of Belize. The VIP is calling on government to launch public consultation before embarking on the amnesty.

For its part, the VIP is calling for progressive immigration reform instead of amnesty.

Government's position on the amnesty is that it is simply seeking to regularize the status of immigrants who are already living in Belize illegally.
