City Hall Still Celebrating
Thu, March 3, 2011
As we told you last night, The Belize City Council's is celebrating fine years in office and it held an Open Day today in the NICH Parking lot.

If your interest is in city administration, this was the place to be. Mayor Moya Flowers told us why the celebrate:…

Mayor Zenaida Moya-Flowers
"Today we are celebrating our 5th anniversary as Belize City Council; it's a time when we will be showcasing to all the residents of Belize City what exactly the Belize City Council does. A lot of people already know what the Belize City Council does, however we have all 15 departments along with ITVET showcasing exactly every single function, every responsibility that we actually have and we actually carry out to ensure that this City runs as smoothly as it can possibly be. We are also here in a way working and really being with the people. I think a lot of them may have questions that ok today they can come out and they will see firsthand answers to their questions a lot of things that they may not know about the city council, they will be able to understand and appreciate and they will hear from the right persons, the technical persons and the administrators of the council."

"We have all the different booth - from the finance department to the traffic, the sanitation department, the works department, the planning department because again a lot of people need to understand what all the planning department does. I mean a lot of the derelict homes before they can be torn down, notices are sent out and so the department will inform exactly the different steps. Again we will be working with some of the home owners to not destroy their homes if in fact it is deem one of the historical landmarks. We will be working with them to try and ensure that it can be restored, so departments will be informing of such information you know like when you are about to build a home, or even make addition to the home you even have to come to the planning department and inform and give the plans so that you can get the building inspectors going out and seeing exactly what you are planning to do and approving it - we actually have a local building authority that carry out that function in terms of reviewing what it is you are planning on doing. So it's in all different areas that some of these areas may not be highlighted and so we will be showcasing it."

Tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock the council will open a state of the art bandstand at the BTL Park.
