Cola Takes On GOB & DOB In Court
Thu, March 31, 2011
Today in the court of acting chief justice Samuel Awich, arguments were heard in the case of COLA and Belizeans For Justice against the government of Belize. COLA and the BFJ are asking to the court to make a declaration on section 7 of the Belize Constitution Sixth Amendment Act of 2010.

The Prime Minister has said he will not implement the constitutional amendment expanding the senate. Attorneys for COLA and BFJ, who are Said Musa, Dickie Bradley and Anthony Sylvester argue that the PM is going outside his powers and taking on powers of the legislature.

Interestingly much of the case is built on a pair of interviews the prime minister gave this station in which he famously said of the expanded senate amendment, quote, "it ain't going to happen…I'm not going to do it…"

Arguments concluded today and the judgment will be handed down on the 28th. June at 2:30 in the afternoon…
