And while there were six murders in the Belize District - there was almost one in Cayo as well.
25 year old Cecilia Marisol Varela was shot five times by what appears to have been a pair of hitmen.
It happened on Friday night at 8:00 on Spain Street in Salvapan. The naturalized Belizean of Salvadoran origin was shot by two masked men who stormed unto her property.
She received five total gunshot injures to her legs and shoulder.
The intruders also fired at her husband and his brother who were outside the house - but neither was injured.
Two 9 millimeter expended shells and one 9mm live round were recovered from outside the house and one slug was found in the living room. Police have detained a man from Salvapan.
