But, the Show Goes On...
Fri, December 14, 2012
And while the protest goes on, for concertgoers, so does the party.

No doubt, with 10 featured acts, tonight's Digicell Concert is the concert event of the year. Yesterday we spoke with headliner Beenie Man - and today another very popular Reggae artist arrived. He is Baby Cham and he told Monica Bodden why it's more than just a regular show and how he plans to turn it up:..

Monica Bodden
"When you talked about "tun up" that the thing that everyone is talking about right now. What does that mean?"

Baby Cham - Dancehall artist
"It's like you have kids - you know how it feel; when you have a new born it's like you wish so much for this child and you hope for so much blessings and prosperity - it's just like a song. in the studio when you record "tun up" there is no way - you want people to accept like that but you are not expecting everywhere in the world that understands English and loves dancehall and reggae music to be saying "tun up" and every female taking it to their heart to raise their self-esteem no matter what or how it may sound but it does it."

Monica Bodden
"It is safe to say that tonight the part will "tun up?""

Baby Cham - Dancehall artist
""tun up" louder."

And while Jamaican Dancehall artists are the big names on tonight's playlist, Belizean performers also hope to make their mark. Now, we know that many times they are subtly put down with the term "local artists." But today two of them told us they have international flavour and they'll prove it tonight.

Elle Marie, Belizean Artist
"Goodnight Belize it's Elle Marie again. Tonight is going to be hype, super vibes. I am going to be bringing out "da me wear the ring" because everybody has been requesting that. Today somebody called in on one of the radio stations and started to sing it and I was like okay, I have to do that one for the people. I'm going to be doing some oldies from some other artists, I'll be mixing it up a little bit, giving the people some old and some new and I'll be wearing something really sexy, I'll be doing my thing, so come out tonight at the MCC Grounds - Elle Marie, yours truly."

"I can tell you that this morning when we officially had a sit down, Beenie Man was here and Doctor Evil, Leftside and it was just super hype - Black Chiney - they made us feel so at home like we knew each other a long time and we were all just vibing each other's energy and kind of wishing everybody well tonight, so we feed off each other's energy and its really good and it makes us feel that it's not international versus local but just all artists together and that was a really beautiful feeling this morning."

Andre Herrera, Belizean Artist
"I just will do everything that everybody knows me for - bring something hype. Make sure you come out early and catch all the Belizean artists them because trust me they are coming with something nice. I will bring some other new songs that I will introduce to Belize. Make sure you reach out early and get your tickets. I believe the Belizean artists will match up with the international artists - so it should be hype from start to end."

"It's funny because from I was 9 years old I used to remember writing down Beenie Man lyrics and now Being on the same stage just show my progress as a Belizean artist. I feel overwhelm right now - I feel happy, I haven't sleep yet because I am enjoying everything and that's why I have to make sure that tonight I will bring it for my Belizean people because they have to own what their own got up."

DigiCell's 10th Anniversary concert is tonight at the MCC Grounds. Doors will open from 7. Live from the Red Carpet will begin at 9 and will be shown live right here on Channel 7.
