The Garifuna Collective Taking Up Andy’s Torch
Fri, June 14, 2013
The Garifuna Collective is going on a major, 25 stop North American tour with Canadian Folk Singer Denny Michel. The collective has collaborated with Michel on a few songs – and this video shows them rehearsing for the tour this week in San Pedro.

But the tour won't just be collaboration, the Collective has its first album named Ayo – a word that means goodbye, a nod to the band leader they used to tour with, Andy Palacio. Now, the collective is forging out on its own with this new album – which will be released in July when they are on tour.

And while that album – produced by Ivan Duran – should be well received, Michel's album with the collective has already been nominated for a Juno award – which is the like the Canadian Grammy's.

The group leaves for the tour next week – and we'll talk to them before they go.

The tour will make stops in Chicago, Toronto, New York, Washington and 13 other cities.
