"Today is the International Credit Union Day, this is celebrated worldwide every 3rd Thursday in October. Since 1948 we have been celebrating International Credit Union Day, everybody worldwide is doing it. It’s a day in which credit unions reflect and just give recognition to the movement and the histories of credit union and give acknowledgment to its members for all its work and its contribution throughout the year."

"This is day when credit unions around the world do little things for their members. Countrywide the credits unions are doing a little something like giving away little snacks whenever you go in there. You have St. John's that is doing blood test for their members, you can go there and do sugar test and high blood pressure test."

"We have St. Francis Xavier that did activity for the whole week and as well as St. Martin's Credit Union did activities for the seniors this week and actually in Corozal they have a queen; they have a St, Francis Xavier queen that they crowned today at 2. Blue Creek did this whole entire week, whenever you go in you can get a little snack and a treat. It’s actually not just one day but an entire week and we would say the entire month of October that we do different things. One of the things we are trying to promote is financial literacy."

"Tomorrow Friday we are having this activity where we will be having this "mad money city" whereby the kids at Sacred Heart High School 3rd and 4th form will be doing this activity where they are going to learn about budgeting. We are going t do a little session where we are going to talk to them about budgeting and a group of them will be given like positions like a job and the we are going to give them a salary and they have this opportunity where around the rooms will have different vendors like with utility bills or the mortgage or the car. They will get the opportunity to make decision and how to spend that salary for the day. Just to get a feel of how to budget."

This year’s International Credit Union Day is being celebrated under the theme “Credit Unions Unite for good; a better way”.
