Ladyville Scene of Three Shootings In 48 Hours
Mon, March 24, 2014
As we told you before the break, Ladyville police had to manage 4 traffic accidents this weekend, but there were also violent crimes which happened that kept the officers busy.

The first happened on Saturday morning, where one man was shot on Pigeon Street. The Rural Executive Officer told us about it:

ASP Chris Noble - Rural Executive Officer

"On Saturday morning sometime after 1:30am, the police visited an area on Pigeon Street and a gentleman had gone to a police officer and reported that he had been injured. The person was taken to the military hospital, they assisted and then taken to the Karl Heusner. He has been released. The preliminary on that is that somebody had fired shots indiscriminately. We don't know if it was at somebody, but pellets may have hit that person. He is now out of the hospital." And a few hours later, police had to go back to Pigeon Street after a wild shootout happened in which bullets went flying into the houses of unsuspecting victims. It's the kind of thing we report on frequently in the crime hotspots in Belize City, but the family which has been living in at their address on Pigeon Street for over 15 years, has never experienced this before. They told us about how the shootout disturbed their sense of peace and security:

ASP Chris Noble - Rural Executive Officer
"Sunday, sometime after 5pm., shots were fired on the same Pigeon Street. So both incidents did occur on Pigeon Street. We don't have any reported injuries at this point, but we are looking into it. Several calibers of weapons were used and there are players that we are looking for."

"We were having diner just about 6pm and we heard like three gunshots first, I thought it was pop-shot. Like three first and then afterwards like ten more right after the other. One of my sons was sitting in the chair and that's when he said mommy, duck go down because its gunshot. I didn't see where the gunshot came from; we were sitting around the table. I just went to the ground and after that about another five more shots. It was at least twenty shots. After everything cool off that's when I got up and ran downstairs to see how my grandkids were because my grandkids were downstairs."

"We understand that you guys discovered that bullets entered your home."

"Yup, actually I didn't even hear it come through the window - in front of the house, the glass window. After looking around, we saw the window was broken; thank god it went on the side so it hit some board and the bullet was on the ground. It was not until the police came about ten, fifteen minutes after, the police looked around and found the bullet on a small table I had next to the window. Then after searching the yard, there was another hole at the top close to the zinc; that one came in through and the police found that too. And then downstairs where my son lives, they found another bullet which penetrated the front door; thank god my grandkids weren't around and nobody got hurt. Thank God for that. I live in Ladyville all my life actually, but I've live here for 21 years and this is the first time. It's come all around and I always thought to myself that it's getting closer and closer; I hoped no day it comes here, but thank God nobody got hurt even though my house is damaged. I can repair that, but not any of my grandkids or me or my family got hurt."

Police say that they are looking for suspects in these two shootings.
