May Bush Gets 13 Years For Killing Man
Fri, March 28, 2014
54 year-old Cayo Resident May Bush will spend 13 years in prison for killing 29 year-old David Guerra. That was the sentence that Temporary Supreme Court Justice Antoinette Moore handed her today in the Belmopan Magistrate's Court.

As we reported, in February, Bush stood trial without a jury before Justice Moore, where evidence was presented that on June 18, 2011, she stabbed Guerra, who was the boyfriend of her daughter, with a pen knife after they had a been drinking at restaurant. The incident reportedly happened after Guerra and Bush's common-law husband ended up in a bar brawl.

In the trial, Bush denied the crime, but the prosecution presented evidence that police found her on the scene shortly after Guerra's stabbing, with the bloody 7 inch knife which was used to commit the crime.

Justice Moore reserved judgment, and on March 7, she found Bush not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter. She heard the mitigation plea in which her relatives spoke positively of her character, and after careful consideration, Justice Moore sentenced Bush to spend 13 years in jail for the conviction.
