Another Allegation Of Brutality
Mon, October 6, 2014
Last week was tough for the police department - 6 police officers were criminally charged - and two were charged disciplinary for various acts of abuse and dishonesty.

But, tonight the complaints of police brutality continue. According to Michael Lorenzo Herrera, on Thursday night while walking to his neighborhood store, he was stopped by police officers who began to beat him on the street. He was then taken to the police station where he spent 48 hours under lock down. He says it is nothing new and he and his brothers are being targeted by one specific officer.

"While walking down the street, 2 men rush at me telling me to lay down. They didn't ID themselves, I didn't lay down because I couldn't see who it was. They flash their light at me when they got closer and I saw a police officer Castellanos and a soldier in his car. The man grab me on my shirt, burst off my rosary. The other one came behind my foot and got me on the ground to lay down. They start to kick me and handcuff me, out my hand in a position that the handcuff, any movement I do this handcuff gets tight on my hand and it grip into my bone. At the same time they pick up me my sister came and I told my sister to hurry call my mom because the men were beating me. So Castellanos came to me and stomp me in my face telling me that 'we are beating you? We are just beating you now then, since you want to say that we are beating you.' They radio in for the police mobile to take me in and I ask what they are taking me in for because they didn't meet me with anything and I didn't do anything. The officer said that he is tired of me and my brothers and that we will start to feel after this. This man and the next officer pick me up by the handcuff and threw me on my face in the pick-up pan and when I try to fix myself in the pan, I ask the officer to just release the pressure on the handcuff because that was the worse pain I was feeling. While I got to straighten myself in the pan, Castellanos came from behind and punch me like 4-5 times in my right eye. I was in front of this inspector showing him the damages that this man did to my hand and my face - this inspector told me that I was making too much noise in his place now and so at the same time Castellanos steps in and while I was watching him he had an shine object in his hand and he told me that he will whap me in my face because I was watching him. But now I don't have any handcuffs on my hand. Believe you me I am tired of taking licks from Castellanos. I don't know what is their problem. From since this year starts every time he locks me down. Every time he comes and take me from my yard, he doesn't meet me on the street, or any block or corner or no way. I am getting enough of this."

Herrera was locked up for 48 hours and was released on Saturday without a charge. His injuries have been classified by a medical practitioner as harm.
