Police Reverse Position On Gun Found At Valley OF Peace Murder Scene
Tue, December 9, 2014
Last night we told you about 54 year-old Donatilo Canales, the Valley of Peace Villager who was found in his yard on Saturday with multiple gunshot wounds. Well, Belmopan police investigators believe he was murdered. That conclusion is based on a completed post-mortem, and the evidence found on the scene.

The problem is that there was no witness to the moment when he was killed and so they don't know who the assailant is. He got up just after midnight on Friday when he heard his dogs barking. When he exited the back door and entered the yard, a few minutes passed, and then, someone shot him 4 times in the leg, chest, neck and head.

The gunman ran off and when Canales' wife and neighbours discovered him, he was already dead. Last night, we reported that police officers who visited the scene found a glock 9mm pistol and 4 expended shells and a slug. That information came in an official press release from the Police Press Office. But today the Commanding Officer Belmopan told us that no gun was found on the scene. That's a startling reversal in the official position and will surely feed the family's theory that a lawman is responsible for the killing and a cover-up is afoot.

But as to the lawman in question, police say its mere speculation and no proof exists to tie him to the crime. Nevertheless, because his name was brought up, police have questioned him - and he says he was not in the village at the time.
