Wed, January 20, 2016

The Gang Suppression Unit was busy today as they apprehended one person for weed, removed a machine gun and a pistol from the streets of Belize City, and recovered a stolen item that, information indicated was to be sold by members of a gang. We start first with the arrest of Jorge Caceres for the offence of "Possession of controlled Drug."

Around 5 o clock this morning based on intelligence, members of the GSU searched a house on Madam Liz Crescent, the residence of 29 year old Caceres. They were searching for firearms and ammunition. 10 persons including females and minors were present when they arrived at the residence. Police found nothing incriminating inside the house but when they searched Caceres, they discovered 4 grams of loose cannabis inside the Velcro of his Jordan slippers.

And when the team looked behind his house to an area across a canal in a thicket of mangroves, they found a black plastic bag strapped to the mangrove with a belt and wire about 12 feet above the ground. Inside the bag they found a red plastic bag containing a rusty Tec 9 mm semi-automatic sub machine gun in working condition. They further found a magazine containing twenty-six live rounds of 9 millimetre ammunition. Further checks revealed a 9 mm pistol and a magazine of twelve live rounds of ammunition, which was stuck between the mangrove branch and the semi-automatic machine gun. One of the live rounds was found inside the chamber- ready to be used. About six feet away authorities found nine 9 mm live rounds of ammunition and three 5.56 live rounds of ammunition inside a transparent Ziploc bag.

Later today around 9:30 am the GSU visited an area behind Inspirational Centre where searches were made within some bushes which led to the discovery of a red, yellow and black in colour Melium Scooter. The motorcycle was reported stolen on the 14 th of January from Albert Street and authorities suspect that members of the Backaland Crips Gang intended to sell the stolen motorcycle for $6 hundred dollars.
