Two weeks ago on the news – you heard the BDF Commander talking about the area of Consejo on the Belize side of the Rio Hondo. He said it's a hotspot for the transshipment of drugs – and today that proved accurate when a joint Customs, BDF and Coast Guard patrol came across 4 parcels of marijuana. The weed was found in the "Estero" area along the river, which is across from "Ramonal" on the Mexico side. It had been concealed in the bushes and law enforcement found two men in the area – but they were too far away from the drugs to establish a connection – so they were not arrested.

The river operation on the Customs vessel named "Fearless" started at 6:00 am and the bust was made at around 11:30 am.

Interestingly, authorities believe the weed was coming across from Mexico – which seems to be gaining currency as a route for marijuana smuggling.
