CDC and Ministry of Health Ready For Rain
Thu, June 9, 2016
The rainy season is upon us, and it poses its own special public health and safety issues. Today at the Biltmore Plaza they were assisted by members of the Centers for Disease and Control in analyzing the Ministry's already existing plan of action. We found out more.

James A. Banaski - Global Response Preparedness Team CDS
"This week we are working with the regional district folks within the ministry of health within the hospitals helping them review their preparedness in response plans for natural disasters specifically hurricanes as well as infectious diseases like Zika and Dengue."

Emanuel Pech
"What is some of the main topics that are being discuss at the table today?"

James A. Banaski - Global Response Preparedness Team CDS
"Some of the main topics being discuss today are cooperation between national emergency management organization as well as the Ministry of Health between the different hospitals as well as the district and city level emergency offices, looking at resource sharing, looking at how they support each other during the response."

John Bodden - Health Disaster Focal Point
"One of the things that is significant with this evaluation is that it will strengthen the way we respond because currently what is in the plan it's a plan that we have been working on for the last 3 years. In 2014, we develop the National Multi Hazard Plan which is the way which we need to look at emergencies now. It's not only 1 specific event, but looking at all different hazards that are associated with our region, our district. So that is all encompassing right now. We have gone through the process whereby we added the 1st plan and then roll it out to the district and we completed that last year. So now what are doing is just to evaluate that gaps that are within those areas there and now we are able - at the end of the session which would conclude tomorrow, we will have those recommendations for the strengthening of this plan here."

Today's meeting was the last session of the three day workshop being led by CDC.
