| UDP’s Belmopan Mayor Says His Own Councilor Forged Signature |

Prime Minister Dean Barrow's Cabinet is going through all kinds of upheaval this week - but another UDP leader - this one at the municipal level is also going through changes. The UDP Mayor of Belmopan Khalid Belisle has had to make a criminal complaint against one of his own councilors. A release from the Belmopan City Council reports that the councilor, Gene Briceno Lopez has been detained by Belmopan police. In his complaint, Belisle alleges that councilor Briceno Lopez forged his signature and illegally used the council's official stamp. The mayor learned this when he was today presented with a document bearing that forged signature and unauthorized stamp. Now usually these matters are dealt with internally, but Mayor Belisle made the report to police immediately and Councilor Briceno has been relieved of her portfolio pending the outcome of the investigation. |
