Shyne Resigns
Thu, August 10, 2017
For months now, Shyne Barrow has been on the media pushing the issue of copyright respect and revenue for Belizean artists. He took the lead as the CEO of B-SCAP, which is the Belizean Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

Well, today we received a leaked copy of a letter saying that he has abruptly resigned that post. The reason? He has a dispute with with the Chairwoman of B-SCAP Heather Cunningham. He makes specific claims alleging that she is claiming exorbitant charges for expenses and salary dating back to 2010. He says this stands in contrast to quote, " the paltry sum of $2,500…to distribute to BSCAP members, the equivalent of $12 per writer member and little more for producer members." Shyne concludes, quote, "I cannot defend the approach of administrative expenses first and BSCAP members last!" In the letter, he says he's lost his "confidence that BSCAP is the entity that will look after the best interests of the artists."

Heather Cunningham did not respond to initial requests for a comment, and Shyne said he will comment next week at a press conference.
