Belizeans Accused of Assaulting Mexi-Taxi
Tue, August 29, 2017
2 Belizeans allegedly assaulted a Mexican taxi-man near the old Belize-Mexico bridge on Monday. According to an online news report in "El Punto", the taximan picked them up at a casino in the Free Zone and as they were heading over to Chetumal, the Belizean passengers assaulted the taximan and tried to subdue him. But he threw himself out of the vehicle. The taximan was injured to his elbow and right ankle. The Belizeans then drove off with the taxi back to the Belize side of the border.

The Police in Chetumal said they could not intervene because the car ended up in the Belize Free Zone, where it has no jurisdiction.
