Opposition Leader Says Bringing Back Chester Is Not Enough
Thu, October 26, 2017
But, Leader of the Opposition, John Briceno is not likely to be impressed. He held a press conference today to discuss a broad range of issues, primary among them, crime on the southside. Briceno said bringing back Chester Williams is a step in the right direction, but spoke also of what's driving the serial of violent crime:...

Hon. John Briceno, Leader of the Opposition
"I am told now that they are sending back Chester Williams into the Southside. It's not necessarily a bad thing. He seemed to have things under control. But sending Chester Williams in itself maybe a band aid solution, a temporary solution, but it is not going to address the real issues that are affecting our people; the issue of poverty, the issue of housing, the issue of lack of education, especially in the Southside."

"There are a number of things that we need to do to address this issue: we need to make sure that our young people go to school and that they have all the necessary books; we need to make sure that we can have a decent housing program for some of our people. 3 million dollars have been thrown away in the Lake Independence Boulevard. We could have built a few hundred homes for the people on the Southside by using this 3 million dollars."

Briceno spoke on a number of other issues and we'll have those remarks later on in the news.
