Breaking Down The Domestic Violence Act
Fri, May 18, 2018
The Domestic Violence Act certainly doesn't qualify as light or leisurely reading - and that's why RET international is working on making the act a bit more accessible to the public by breaking down the heavy law language in lay man's terms. RET and their team met today at the National Women's Commission office to start looking through the document. Here's more from there meeting.

Thandiwe Diego, RET International Youth Ambassador
"So the event here at RET, here at National Woman's Commission is a collaboration between the National Women's Commission and RET International in Belize and myself the RET International Youth Ambassador. So what we are doing is we are taking the Domestic Violence Act and with youth together we are translating the act into language that is more understandable to the general public especially youth."

"So what we are doing, we are in working groups and we are breaking off to look at the document itself, word for word, section by section we are covering 3 sections today."

"The plan is that we will need more consultations with youth and people from other sectors to have a completed booklet to say this is what the domestic violence act is in a way that is understandable and that is the end goal here to create such a booklet such a document."

The team plans to consult for another 6 months then they will work on producing the booklet with the condensed version of the act.
