YCT, Communities and Conservation
Fri, July 6, 2018
The Ya'axché Conservation Trust has been working in southern Belize for 20 years now. They started out as a conservation NGO with a mission to safeguard a natural corridor connecting the forests of the Maya Mountains with the lowland forests of the Caribbean coastal plain. From there they took on co-management of the Bladen Nature Reserve - but learned that for conservation to be successful it must involve, engage and empower the surrounding community. The Executive Director spoke about this mission from the Bladen Reserve:

Ya'axché now manages 770,000 acres across an area called the MAYA GOLDEN LANDSCAPE.
